Chapter Five

Those green eyes were big. Yes, Hyden smelled fear, but the overpowering scent was arousal. And anger. Graham was pissed at him. Rightfully so. He had been an ass. He should have told him the truth right from the start. He should have simply taken the pup in hand and sat him down—tied him down—and told him. Then taken him.

Nope. Instead, he had to do it the hard way.

Thankfully, it no longer mattered. Hyden had already passed the point of no return, and the pup passed that point the moment he crossed Hyden’s threshold. Hyden had no problem teaching the shifter a lesson or two tonight. He would still leave the main event for tomorrow.

He pulled Graham into an embrace, forcing the man’s face up so Hyden could kiss him, something he had wanted to do since the moment he saw Graham’s sweet mouth. He immediately sank his tongue into that mouth, going deep, fighting Graham’s, as the pup struggled to gain back some control. Hyden grinned at the effort, pleased he was a fighter. He would have to be. They were both secure in this room since it was built as a safe room as well. Even so, with the dangerous path Hyden was going down, changing things the way he planned on changing things in the city, Graham, as his mate, would still need to learn real self-defense.

Tonight, though, was about Graham’s surrender and Hyden’s absolute physical need to possess him.

Graham fought him. Hyden had to admit it was turning him on more than he thought he could be. He was, and had already been, aching with desire. How there was anything more to feel was beyond Hyden’s ability to understand. Hyden grabbed Graham’s wrists again and held them against the smaller man’s back. Using his grip on Graham, Hyden pulled Graham's body tight up against his own. Then taking both Graham's hands in one of his, he sank the fingers of his other hand into the back of Graham’s hair to hold him still while he continued to devour him with his kiss. He was rewarded with a moan of pleasure and a moment of surrender.

But only a moment.

Graham was right back to fighting him again. Hyden chuckled and released him from the kiss. Forehead to forehead, he looked into Graham’s flashing eyes and said, “First lesson, pup, will be stillness.”

“No! I won’t listen to you.” Graham pulled as far away from Hyden as he could, which wasn’t far. “You lie just like all Alphas.”

“No, Graham, I don’t.”

“You already proved to me you do!” He struggled with everything in him, turning red in the face with his efforts. Hyden let him. He would soon figure out there was no escape. It would be the beginning of the trust Hyden needed to build.

“Technically, I didn’t lie. I admit to leaving out some of the truth, but you left me with no choice. You would have disappeared had I let you know your error.”

The sudden collapse into Hyden took him by surprise.
